Pre-Owned (or Rental) Wedding Dresses?

Chicago’sCold asked:

Hi, I am in Chicago and am looking for a place that sells (or rents) couture wedding dresses from designers such as Romona Keveza, Amsale, Reem Accra, Vera Wang and Justina McCaffrey.

I was preparing to pay $4800 for a Justina McCaffrey gown but something in my head told me to pump my brakes…and get off of Oak Street.

This is very popular on the East Coast but I am finding this to be really tough here in Chicago. If you have any info on this please let me know! I’ve got exactly ONE YEAR to go!!!

check out ebay, they have pre-owned wedding dresses. also, look for a designer that can mimic the style you want without the price tag, such as david’s bridal or maggie sottero. another idea is to just go to different bridal boutiques and purchase a sample gown.

I ran a quick search, and came up with “White Chicago”, located at 222 West Huron, phone number 312.397.1571. The website indicates that they sell new, sample, and “once-wed” gowns, and have a couture seamstress onsite. Vera Wang is on their list of designers, as is Badgley Mischka, Demetrios, Scaasi…

Going through consignment is a smart way to save money on a dress you love! Your search through local bridal shops and consignment shops should yield better results than my quick Y!search - mostly because you’re there and I’m in New Jersey :) Your local newspaper may have gowns listed in the classified ads (apparently more weddings get called off than we think), or if there is a fashion design program in a local university, a professor or senior student may be able to help you design the look you love at a considerable discount.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and happy shopping!

I don’t know if you’d be interested…but there is this thing called Brides Against Breast Cancer. People donate new and used wedding dresses of all styles and from lots of different designers to this cause and they have bridal shows to sell the dresses to support this charity. This way, if you find one you like, it will be at a huge discount and you’d be supporting a good cause. Here’s the link…
