Wedding dress Blues?
bo asked:
I just bought a vera wang wedding dress on Ebay, and even though the dress is my size, she had the waist taken in to 27 inches. So, since she had it taken in, is there a way I can have it taken back out? Is that even possible? I’m completely in love with this gown, it’s definitally “the one”. I don’t want to have to buy another dress because of this.

It’s going to depend upon the fabric and on how much stress was placed on the seam. Take it to a seamstress and see what they say.
HOW MANY INCHES YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT OUT AND IF THERE IS ENOUGH MATERIAL LEFT FOR IT , IS THE QUESTION. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A WONDERFUL MARRIED LIFE .
It is totally possible to take it back out! Can you see the stitches on the inside of the gown? How much extra fabric can you see? If she had it taken in I dont see why the seamstress would have cut off the extra fabric! So she most likely folded it under and restitched it. That means whatever fabric was on the dress originally should still be there. Normally they have about a half an inch folded under the stitch but sense she had it taken in you’d think the extra would have just been tucked in. I would def. take it to a local seamstress and see what she thinks! She would be able to give you a better idea of how much fabric is under there hiding
Congrats btw!!!
They will charge you for it but usually its not too bad. They should never charge you to take your measurements! Just for the letting out of the dress! I hope whoever did it didn’t take off the original inches of fabric I couldn’t imagine that happening to me so I can only imagine how disappointed you feel right now. Did you contact the seller and ask why they didn’t tell you it had been taken in? That was very rude of them! Also check the bustle while you’re at it. If you can get it taken out and you don’t like the bustle you could have them redo it while they are altering the waist! Just another thing to double check! I hope it all works out for you! Good luck and I hope this settled you nerves a little
I think its going to depend on how the original alterations were done, it the excess material was cut away i dont think there would be anything to put back…. I would take it to a seamstress and see what they say maybe they can put a panel in its place………
Dont be disheartened, they can work magic…….
Talk to a tailor. It would be worth trying. Have the tailor take it out as much as possible and you could try loosing the rest of the weight. I don’t know how practical that is for you, but it might work.
You should take the dress in to an alterations person and let them see the dress. Once they have seen the dress they should be able to tell you if it can be let out or maybe have a corsette back put in.
If it was taken in by a reputable seamstress then it should be able to be let out to the original size, maybe even +1 inch or so.
If the fabric has been cut then you may have to start looking for a new dress.
If you get a great seamstress who is experienced with wedding dresses and fabric, anything is possible. Even if there isn’t enough seam room, inserts can be put in quite invisibly if the fabric can be matched.
Take it to a few seamstresses and see what they can do. Don’t give up on the dress just yet — it sounds like you really like it so go to a professional and see what they can do. Good luck!
The only thing i can suggest is to ask a dress maker and get their professional opinion.
It depends, look at the seams on the inside of the dress. Did whoever took it in cut the extra fabric off or is it still there? If it’s still there, it will be easy to do. If it’s not, depending on the style of the dress, a good seamstress that works on wedding dresses may be able to let it out anyway and put a panel on each side so it looks like part of the design of the dress.
If the seams are small, then your next option would be is to have gussets put in on each side of bodice. A gusset is a strip of matching fabric that is sewn in to give a person room on waistline and bodice of garment. Make sure that you select a fabric like the fabric of the gown. As a seamstress, I have done this quite a few times. YOu would have to bring it to a reputable dressmaker/seamstress in your town who sews gowns and does alterations, and she can make this Vera Wang gown large enough to fit your waistline. Good Luck and don’t fret because it can be done.
