I am looking to have a small civil ceremony since my bf is going off to Afganistan soon and we don’t have a lot of time to plan the big wedding…..we will do that when he comes back….. how long does it usually take to get the cival ceramony or even chaplin at the armory together? What are the first steps in planning this and just making things go smoothly?

We are in western new york if that helps at all.

Usually a blood test and marriage license, and you’re good to go. You need to check with your city/county on how long it will take, and if it’s too long, tell them your situation, and hopefully, they can expedite it! Congratulations on the marriage, and best wishes for your BF. Good Luck!

im sure you can just ask your town clerk. i’m doing that now and it relatively painless.

    Hi and congratulations:

Here is what I found out about getting married in New York. Read this article. You basically have a 24-hour waiting period from the time you apply for the license until the time that you can be married.

So….apply for the license NOW (it’s valid for 60 days), and then go from there. If you hurry, you CAN plan a wedding quickly. But if you just want the courthouse thing, that is up to you also. Basically, just call the courthouse of the county you are in to locate a judge or justice of the peace to marry you. Make an appointment and you are done! Same thing for the chaplain at the armory. I think you would simply call him to see about his schedule. This can all be done within a week depending on how soon you can find someone to marry you. Good luck! Here is the article:
