what do you wear to a catholic wedding in May?

Andie 323 asked:

The wedding is at 2 pm (reception at 5 pm) and in Texas, so it will be hot and possibly raining. The bride and groom are mexican-american catholic, with very traditional parents. What I have seen of the wedding plans so far have been VERY nice and the majority of the “non-family” guests are physicians. What would be appropriate to wear to this day wedding, that would be classy and carry over into the early evening?

You can never go wrong with a nice dress and heals. Make sure the dress isn’t too loud, or white (that’s reserved for the bride). To dress it up a bit more for the evening, wear a lightweight shawl. Another choice would be a nice top and skirt, which could also be upgraded for the evening with a lightweight shawl. Because the wedding and reception are early, you don’t have to get all dressed up in an outfit with a lot of bling. Relax and have fun!

The same thing you would wear to a Protestant wedding in June. Seriously though, a nice suit of breathable fabric would work well. If you aren’t Mexican, no one expects you to dress as if you were.

    The real answer:

    1. Classy = Sleeves or a shawl. Lace or lightweight. No plunging necklines.

    2. Wedding = NO white, and no black, either. Pastels work well.

    3. Appropriate = Tasteful jewelry. Find your pearls.

If your hair is long, consider putting it up where it can be out of the way and avoid making you hot. Be sure to not notice (read: don’t comment about) the heat, the rain, or anything else that makes you uncomfortable; your dissatisfaction will be noted and not appreciated.

I bet the ceremony will be beautiful. Have fun!

Something like these would work but you need something to cover up with for the actual ceremony=&pbo=6001837&P=1=&pbo=6001837&P=12
